Josh Harris is one of the least popular team owners in
Philly sports history. He has owned the 76ers since 2011 and has done
nothing but mis-manage the team, so seeing him get praise for being such a
great owner in Washington, D.C. makes me sick. But it’s true…his
Commanders team HAS had a remarkable turnaround, and they’re playing the Eagles
for the NFC Championship at the Linc on Sunday. Harris’ football team
could beat the Eagles, across the street from where his basketball team has
wasted the last 10+ seasons. If Washington does win, seeing Harris
celebrate will pour a ton of salt on a very deep wound.
Harris recently told radio station 980 The Team in Washington that the
Commanders are built on culture, talent, and people. So it begs the
question…what happened to the culture here in Philly with the Sixers?
When Harris bought the team, the Sixers could not get past the second round of
the playoffs. Here we are in 2025, and the Sixers STILL have not gotten
past Round 2. In fact, when Harris’ football team comes to town, it will
be the most successful Harris team in Philly.
Harris’ tenure as owner of the Sixers has been nothing but
mismanagement and disappointment. His GM, Sam Hinkie, engineered “The Process”, which gave us years of
putrid basketball…and for what? The Sixers still have no shot at a
title. This year, they may even miss the playoffs. As of this
writing, they are 15-27.
Oh, and did I mention he also bought the Flyers rival New
Jersey Devils years ago? Harris is a man who owns 3 teams in 3 sports in
3 markets. So when the Sixers leveraged a new arena from the city and
Comcast-Spectacor, and Harris said he wants to help revitalize the city, it
seems disingenuous. While he says he cares about Philly, he is in a suite
at the Prudential Center in Newark, or yukking it up on the sidelines at
Northwest Stadium in Maryland.
So when it comes to the NFC Championship on Sunday, I want
the Birds to win for more than just the obvious reason. I’m a lifelong
Philly sports fan and I bleed green. But I want the Eagles to win, to
crush Harris. He is a lousy owner. If Josh Harris is able to accept
the NFC Championship trophy on the field at the Linc, it will be one of the
worst losses in franchise history.
The Eagles are the better team. They SHOULD win on
Sunday, but it won’t be easy. I’ll say 27-23 Eagles, sending the
Commanders home for the season. Maybe then Harris can focus on his
basketball team, and bring some of his culture, talent, and people to
Philly. GO BIRDS!
